From The Garage to The Masters

Tyler Johnson wasn’t looking to start a company—he was just looking for a golf bag small enough for his toddler.

It didn’t exist. So he built it.

That first product—a lightweight, perfectly sized bag for kids 2–5—became the foundation for Charlie Golf Company, a business Tyler launched in 2023 while still working full-time.

He ordered 150 units. They sold out immediately.

What started in his garage as a side project turned into a brand that’s gone viral on TikTok and even showed up at The Masters. Literally.

“I made a green colorway for fun, just to see how it looked. Four months later, it was on the course at Augusta during the Par 3 contest. Wild.”

The rise looked smooth from the outside, but inside Tyler’s house? It was chaos.

Charlie Golf blew up during the holidays. Orders skyrocketed. And right in the middle of it all, Tyler’s young daughter and pregnant wife were hospitalized with pneumonia.

“I was packing boxes after 10pm. Rocking my son while answering customer emails. Driving to the hospital. It was one of the hardest weeks of my life.”

But it was also the week he knew: this wasn’t just a cute idea. It was real. And he was all in.

Today, Tyler is expanding Charlie Golf into a full junior product line. He’s launching new bags, refining his ops, and staying grounded in the same mission he started with:

Build a golf brand that parents and kids can grow into—together.

“The reason this works is simple. It solves a real problem. And it’s fun.”

Tyler didn’t have investors. He had a garage, a Shopify store, and a toddler with a tiny swing. He turned that into a business.

This is what underestimated looks like.
